My Christmas gift to you is an indulgent, hour long yin yoga class for flexibility! Stretch out your hips, shoulders, hamstrings and low back with this lovely sequence that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and comfortable in your own body. You will need two blocks for this practice and a blanket is optional but nice to have.

What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more felxibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints. Although your muscles will also be stretched, that is not the focus of the practice. It is best to practice yin yoga while your muscles are cold and NOT warmed up, even if that sounds counterintuitive. The reason we do this is so that we can send the “stress” and the “Stretch” to the connective tissues. If the muscles are warm they will steal the focus away from the joints.

There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose

Use as many props as needed in Yin Yoga! Blocks, bolsters and straps are all great ways to support your body to make sure you are respecting your edge and not going too far.

  2. Love the class. It would be awesome if you could let the music go for a couple minutes for shavasana even if you aren't there for it so the ad doesn't come on right away which is really loud.

  6. I promise I kept my fidgeting to a minimum. This is the third hour long video of hers that I have tried and now have added to my list of routines to choose for my daily yoga practice. I started off earlier this year with 10-15 min videos, then 25-30, maybe doing two videos back to back. I have taken the plunge into committing to a full hour. I didn’t think I could keep my mind from wandering but I try to stay in the moment, focusing on the pose and what I am trying to accomplish. I prefer these slower, Yin classes since I’ve got knots to work out. I’m getting there. I love this girl – she’s amazing!

  9. As much as I love the content in these videos, this music was jarring and intrusive to me… apocalyptic kept coming to mind. Wind chimes, birds, oceanic sounds or even nothing would have been so much better. It was anything but peaceful… Just my opinion.

  10. Hi Kassandra I have been doing your vinyassa yoga classes for some time now but recently got in to the yin 1 hour or longer and in particular this class above. I have found I really like doing this one almost every day or other day and I like the back ground music it really helps me to get in to that calm space in my mind. I just wanted to ask you what changes and benefits should I expect in my body from doing the Yin more regularly than vinyassa . Would I still gain some muscle strength or would I need to do vinyassa for strength and toning? Thank you so much for all the amazing content . You have really converted me to yoga because I find your way of teaching so easy and calming. Xx

  12. I love this class. I’m doing it once a week to see my progression. Doing your classes 5x a week has been a great addition to my health and fitness.
